KIDDE SAFETY EUROPE LAUNCHES REDESIGNED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS

Updated range of CO detectors compliant with the latest EN standards

A leading manufacturer of fire and life safety products, Kidde Safety Europe has launched a redesigned range of battery-powered carbon monoxide (CO) alarms certified to the latest EN product standards. The entire Kidde range of battery-powered CO alarms is Kitemark approved by the British Standards Institution and complies with EN 50291-1:2018, which supersedes the 2010 revision. Kidde is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the leading provider of safe, sustainable, and intelligent building and cold chain solutions.

“The launch of an updated range of CO alarms that comply with the latest EN standards ensures the highest level of safety and makes it easier for customers to find a suitable, high-quality alarm,” said Marco van Hooren, Managing Director, Carrier Residential Fire Europe and Kidde Safety Europe. “Protection against CO has never been more important. The update to our CO alarm range comes at an important time when legislative changes are also being made to increase home safety with mandatory alarms. This is an important change for the protection of the general public.”

Kidde's new line of battery-powered CO alarms includes updated versions of its popular products. All include Kidde's exclusive electrochemical CO sensor, which continuously monitors CO levels. The proven Kidde sensor is also designed and tested for a 10-year lifespan, longer than many other solutions on the market, ensuring long-term peace of mind.

In accordance with the new requirements of EN 50291-1:2018, which apply in the UK, all products are equipped with an 'end of life' indicator that warns the occupant when the CO sensor reaches the end of its lifespan (typically 10 years) and needs to be replaced. As stipulated in the updated standard, this warning consists of both a beep and flashing lights to provide both audible and visual alerts.

Kidde CO alarms feature three separate warning lights (low battery, alarm, and alarm fault), mandated by the new standard. All CO alarms in the range have a sound output of 85 dB(A) at three meters, as required by the updated standard (previously 85 dB(A) at one meter). This aligns the alarms with the audibility levels required for smoke alarms compliant with EN 14604.

Additionally, the Kidde K5DCO, K7DCO, and K10LLDCO detectors feature digital displays to show the current CO level, with the ability to view the maximum recorded CO level from 11 to 999 parts per million (PPM). For added convenience and safety, the K10LLDCO and K10LLCO models are powered by sealed lithium batteries, so users won't need to replace the batteries throughout their lifetime.

The K7CO and K7DCO models also meet the requirements of EN 50291-2:2019 and are suitable for the additional environmental conditions that may be encountered on boats, in caravans or in motorhomes.
